As a civil engineering business, TSM are no stranger to digging deep for a team cause, so when the chance arose to support grassroots football, putting our hands in our pockets was a gesture that came naturally to the company.
TSM’s Head of Commercial Development, Suzanne Saynor, has a son who plays for the Abbey Lane Panthers Under 11s, a brilliant young team based near Sheffield that has only been running for two years. Like many up-and-coming grassroots clubs, they rely heavily on fundraising to cover essentials such as pitch hire, kits, equipment, and other running costs. Every contribution, big or small, helps keep the team thriving.
To raise the money they need, the club decided to run a “Last Man Standing” competition — a popular elimination-style game that keeps players, parents, and supporters glued to the weekly fixtures. Participants pay an entry fee and pick a team they think will win. If their team wins, they stay in; if they lose or draw, they’re out. The last person standing wins a share of the entry pot, with the remainder going directly to the club.
When Suzanne shared the fundraiser with the TSM team, the response was immediate. Many colleagues — from site teams to head office operations — signed up, donated, and got involved in the fun, helping to swell the pot to an impressive total of £770. Director, Adam Taylor, then stepped up with an offer to match that sum and donate it directly to the team, effectively more than doubling the pot!
Thanks to everyone’s enthusiasm and generosity, the club was able to help raise an incredible £1,155 for the Abbey Lane Panthers U11s.
TSM’s support will provide new opportunities, better equipment, and more confidence for the young players who turn up every week full of energy and enthusiasm. It also reflects something at the heart of TSM: team spirit, community support, and a willingness to go the extra mile, both above and below ground.
We’re proud to stand behind the Panthers and look forward to cheering them on as they continue to grow, develop, and enjoy the game they love!
