Ensuring Waterproofing for Water Harvesting Systems
In construction projects, ensuring proper waterproofing for water harvesting systems is essential for functionality and sustainability. This project in Scunthorpe involved Total Specialist Maintenance (TSM) collaborating with a construction company to provide waterproof tanking for a water harvesting tank.
The Challenge
The construction company was tasked with installing a water harvesting tank for a client who required effective waterproof tanking to retain water for the irrigation system serving the expansive grounds of the property. Ensuring a watertight seal was crucial to the system’s success, with key concerns including:
- Preventing Water Loss: Any leaks or water loss from the tank could compromise the irrigation system’s effectiveness and lead to increased operational costs.
- Maintaining Structural Integrity: It was essential to ensure that the tank’s structure remained sound and capable of withstanding the pressure of the retained water.
The Solution
TSM implemented a comprehensive waterproof tanking strategy that involved several critical steps:
- Mechanical Preparation: The process began with meticulous preparation of the substrate to ensure optimal adhesion of the tanking materials. This included cleaning and profiling the surface to create a suitable base for the waterproofing system.
- Installing Angle Fillets: TSM added angle fillets to all 90-degree corner details of the tank. This step was crucial for enhancing the waterproofing integrity, as it eliminated potential weak points where water could seep through.
- Tanking the Structure: A structural waterproof tanking render was applied to the walls and floor of the water harvesting tank. This robust application created a solid, watertight seal that prevented any leakage and ensured the effective retention of water within the tank.
Project Management Excellence
TSM’s project management team ensured that every aspect of the waterproofing process was executed efficiently and effectively. By coordinating closely with the construction company and maintaining open lines of communication, TSM minimised disruptions and kept the project on schedule.
Safety Considerations
Safety was a top priority throughout the project. TSM adhered to strict safety protocols to protect workers and ensure compliance with industry standards. The materials used in the tanking process were selected for their durability and environmental safety.
Environmental Considerations
The materials chosen for the waterproofing system were environmentally friendly, minimising any potential impact on the surrounding ecosystem. TSM’s commitment to sustainable practices reinforced the project’s alignment with best environmental practices.
